We did well to lose four
Stephen Robinson saw his 10- man St Mirren side crushed by Aberdeen – then praised them.
The Buddies shipped four goals after having to play the majority of the match with 10 men after Declan Gallagher’s red card when he gave away a penalty for the opener.
But boss Robbo was happy they prevented Jim Goodwin’s men rattling up a bigger winning margin.
He said: “They’re a good team, they’ve spent a lot of money recruiting that squad and have players who can hurt you in every area of the pitch.
“We’re not in that league and with 10 men, at 3- 0 down, it’s testament to the players and their strength of character how they dug in.
“We stuck to our task and we chased the game and put two strikers on. Maybe I should have stuck with one but we went for it at 3-1
so I’ll take the blame.” The Saints boss also claimed the penalty decision which saw Gallagher sent off was more than controversial.
He said: “Declan is adamant it hit his chest, not arm. Whether it’s right or wrong I don’t know.
“The things that we can control, the second and fourth goals are preventable. There was a bit of miscommunication for the second and we got caught in behind when chasing the game at 3-1.
“I have to say, the players’ character, was excellent. They didn’t give up.
“I can’t ask for too much more in terms of effort and application. We could have better quality and decision making at times but I’m not going to get too down.
“We could have got it to 3-2 but Lady Luck isn’t shining on us too much.
“Results have not been what we want but we’ve another opportunity to rectify that on Saturday.”
