Ross McNeill bagged as hat-trick as sorry Newton Stewart were thrashed 6-1 by Caledonian Braves in the first round .

Robert Hughan sent a ball through to Rory Drysdale in the area and the midfielder spun round and smashed his effort home to give the Creesiders an eighth minute lead.

But the Braves bounced back and McNeill equalised before having another goal ruled offside.

The second half goal rush started with Jamie Walker rifling the ball home and two minutes later Braves were 3-1 up through Jack McDowall.

In the 65th minute McNeill got his second of the afternoon and three minutes later completed his hat-trick.

Luke Main wrapped things up with number six in the 72nd minute.

Boss Ricky Waddell said: “I want to go as far as we can. When we are on our game, I feel we can be a match and more for everybody.”

Elsewhere, Fraserburg­h nicked a 2-1 victory over Civil Service Strollers.

The Highland League champions went ahead after only eight minutes thanks to Connor Boyd with Sean Butcher adding a second.

Strollers sparked life into the closing 20 minutes when a double sub paid dividends. Lewis Duffy was only on the field for two minutes when he headed them back into the game but Fraserburg­h held out for victory.

Dalbeattie Star pulled off a shock as they beat Cumbernaul­d Colts 1- 0 for their first win of the season.

After eight league defeats and a draw, David Taylor’s strike from a corner was enough to seal victory.

And Zander Murray’s 100th goal for Gala Fairydean Rovers couldn’t stop them falling to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Sauchie.

A Sam Columbine penalty gave the Beechwood side the lead but Murray hit back in 24 minutes.

Columbine struck again before Ross Kavanagh scored twice to make sure of his side’s place in the second round.

Gretna 2008 had to battle back from a goal down to beat Edinburgh University 3-1.

David Maskrey hit a 10th-minute opener with Gretna’s Russell Currie missing a penalty.

But Callum Helm levelled before Currie made amends with two goals.
