Reds are step up in class
OWEN hope for Rangers
MiMichael Owen admits RaRangers will have hope at AAnfield but warns they wwill rarely play a team as hhigh class as Liverpool.
The former Kop strike ststar reckons Tuesday nignight’s clash is a must-win mamatch for his old club.
ThThey cannot a f ford anothanother Champions League slip in the massive all-British tie if tthey want to reach the knocknockout phase.
Owen said: “There’s no denying Liverpool have not been at their best this season but they can bounce back.
“Rangers’ players will be used to huge occasions — they play Celtic four times a season and they are involved a lot in Europe.
“However, in saying that, they won’t be used to playing against a team as good as Liverpool.
“The only good thing for them is that Liverpool aren’t at their brilliant best, so they will be going to Anfield with a little bit of hope when, two or three years ago, you’d really be fearing for them.”
Tuesday ’ s clash wi l l , remarkably, be the f irst competitive game between the clubs.
Liverpool looked awful against Napoli and shaky in their 2-1 win against Ajax but Gers were well beaten by both sides.
O we n wa r n e d : “Liverpool aren’t flying but it’s a formidable ask still for Rangers.
“At Ibrox it will be a different kettle of fish.
“But at Anfield I expect it to be fairly straightforward for Liverpool.
“Rangers’ scorelines in thei r f i rst two games wouldn’t give you too much room for optimism.
“Liverpool are ful l of quality and we all know what they are like on European nights at Anfield.
“The other thing is that Liverpool really need a win. They could do with at least four points – and hopefully six – from the games against Rangers and that should see them through.”
