£10m blow for crocked Cat Stewart

-

Ross Stewart looks set to miss the rest of the season after being carried off last night as Sunderland and Fulham drew 1-1 to force a replay.

A sixth-minute strike from Jack Clarke gave the Black Cats the lead before Scotland striker Stewart went down with an Achilles injury.

The 26-year-old, who has already missed fourth months of the season with a thigh injury, couldn’t continue and it’s now shattered a proposed £10million move to Bournemouth or Brighton this week.

Former Scotland man Tom Cairney hit back for the Cottagers before 15-year-old Christopher Rigg had the ball in the net in the 90th minute.

But the Sunderland kid’s goal was rightly ruled out for offside to ensure a replay at the Stadium of Light.

Tony Mowbray said: “It does look like it is an Achilles injury for Ross.

“They’re long injuries, it’s devastating. The scan will reveal the full extent, hopefully it isn’t as bad as we think.”

Elsewhere, Samuel Bell bagged a double either side of an Alex Scott effort as Bristol City beat West Brom 3-0.

Romain Perraud struck twice to send Southampton through as they beat Blackpool 2-1 at St Mary’s.

Sheffield Wednesday fought back from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Scott Brown’s Fleetwood. Promise Omochere netted for Town before Josh Earl’s own goal tied it up.

Grimsby gave Luton a scare in a 2-2 draw, taking the lead through Gavan Holohan before Elijah Adebayo hit back from the spot. Jordan Clark put Luton in front but Harry Clifton hit back.

Blackburn drew 2-2 with Birmingham and Burnley were held 0-0 by Ipswich.
