Jurgen: Haul over bar the shouting for us and City

Dominant days are ending for the top two

-

Jurgen Klopp fears the days of Liverpool and Manchester City dominating the English game are likely over.

The Kop boss has guided the Reds to six trophies in four spectacular years at Anfield.

And City have been an even greater domestic force under Pep Guardiola.

But Klopp bel ieves the emergence of Arsena l , Manchester United and Newcastle in the top four could signal the end of two clubs ruling English football.

Liverpool’s form has dipped this season and the manager, who takes his team to Brighton today in the FA Cup fourth round, said: “What happened in the league with City and us in the last few years was exceptional. It is embarrassing to say but the consistency we showed in that period is crazy.

“Consistency is the most dif f icult thing to have in football – we will see how that goes for other teams when they have little drops or injuries.

“But it’s likely it’ll get tougher for everybody to stay up at the top, to qualify for Europe, the Champions League and especially become champions.

“It will be difficult because of the quality of the teams, the money around and the quality of the coaches, which has improved a lot as well.”

Weighing up the opposition, Klopp said: “Arsenal are a sensational team. Mikel Arteta i s doing an outstanding job.

“They will not go o away easily and say ‘ We’ve had our year, thank you very much.’ much ’

“United are in a really good place – whatever happens there. They will not stop investing and improving.

“And if City do not win the league, I do not think Pep will accept it. They will go again.

“Tottenham, Newcastle, Brighton are doing well too. We have to see how long Brighton can keep that team together.”

Solly March scored two of Brighton’s goals as they defeated the Reds 3- 0 a fortnight ago – and Roberto De Zerbi’s men ran the men from Merseyside ragged.

But don’t try tel l ing the winger his side are favourites

to beat KloKlopp’s men in the Cup this afternafternoon.

He ssa id : “We didn’t thinkwthinkwe would be able to beat Liverpool that well and so easily.

“We know it’s not going to be the same again. They will want payback and to show us how good they really are.

“People are saying Brighton are favourites for this game but I don’t see how that’s possible.

“We’ll have to be 100 per cent to get anything from it.”

March has scored four in his past five league games and, with the Seagulls flying high, is loving l i fe under new manager De Zerbi.

The attacker said: “The gaffer sets the example every day. It’s him driving us forward.”
