Aid: We will end fairytale

-

Aidan Nesbitt insists

Falkirk will have no qualms about bursting Darvel’s Scottish Cup fairytale.

Even if it upsets the Ayrshire giantkillers’ new legion of fans throughout Scotland.

The Bairns face the

West of Scotland League side who knocked out Aberdeen last round in one of the Scottish Cup’s greatest ever shocks.

It was a result that got the whole country talking and Nesbitt admits people have told him to his face they want Davel to win tomorrow’s fifth-round tie.

But Bairns midfielder Nesbitt is confident they can end Darvel’s dreams and move closer to a trip to Hampden themselves.

The 26-year-old said: “Darvel have the backing of the rest of the country – it’s just another factor we need to overcome.

“I’ve been speaking to people who are not involved in football about the game in the last week or so. And they’ve been saying they’re going to watch the game – and they hope Darvel beat us, even though they’re talking to me!

“Everyone loves an underdog story, don’t they? So, our job is to make sure it doesn’t happen in this game.”

Having also knocked out League One Montrose with a remarkable 5-2 away victory in the third round, Nesbitt reckons Darvel will fancy their chances.

But, having suffered just one defeat in their last 12 matches, he insists Falkirk have plenty of belief in themselves too.

He added: “We’ve a chance of playing in the quarter-finals if we win.

“So we are as motivated to win as anyone. No matter who we were playing against, it’s a massive opportunity.

“They’ll be confident but I don’t think we’ve got anything to fear if we can play our game – and put the background noise to one side.”
