Callum: May is my man

- Scott Burns

Callum Davidson praised St Johnstone hero Stevie May for his never-say-die attitude as he stole the headl ines in Dundee United’s own legends’ day.

Saints hero May scored a brilliant volley for the opener and then robbed Mark Birighitti for the winner to clinch the points.

And Davidson said: “It was a huge match for us. It was so important for both teams today.

“United started the game well but once it settled down we came back into it. Both teams tried to win the game.

“We are fortunate that we have a guy like Stevie May in the team who never gives up.

“He has a never-say-die attitude and he manages straight away to score the second goal at a really crucial time.

“I am delighted with how he got it and we just deserved it.

“He was superb all game and chased everything down, worked really hard.

“Once we scored the goal, we were sitting in and playing on the counter.

“We played good football with Dundee United trying to break us down.

“It was one of those games where we were just delighted to get three points which you probably saw from my reaction at the end.”

Saints are now 10 points clear of the bottom but Davidson is still taking nothing for granted.

He said: “I will always look down!

“We have had two tough away games at Motherwell and Dundee United and we’ve taken six points. I am really pleased with that.

“We drew a lot of matches last season but this season we have managed to win games. With the team we have got, we can win games.

“They need to believe that they are a good team. They are a good team when they work hard.”
