Davie’s game of chance

- ■ Scott Burns

Davie Martindale reckons Livingston’s defeat at Pittodrie was summed up by the fact Aberdeen took their one big chance – and his Lions didn’t.

Livi drew their fifth blank in six matches as Bojan Miovski’s goal sealed victory for the Dons.

The Lions had a chance but Angus MacDonald headed Joel Nouble’s effort off the line and that ensured Aberdeen jumped above them into the top six.

Martingale said: “I don’t think either team made many chances.

“One team scored and the other had one cleared off the line – and that’s the story of the game.

“We had to do better at the goal as it wasn’t a great clearance by Ayo Obileye and Sean Kelly switched off.

“That’s disappointing and we weren’t our selves. We didn’t dominant at the back, which isn’t like us.”

Livi have won once in the last six but Martinale isn’t concerned about their goal drought and is confident they will come good.

He said: “It doesn’t come into my thinking. I’m not worried about that.

“I don’t look at these stats because I know what we do in training every day and where we were in the league before this game.

“We were in the top six for a reason and we still have a game in hand.”

Livi are now in the bottom half though and Martindale knows his men must roll up their sleeves.

He said: “At no point when the fixtures come out did I think we have a divine right to come to Aberdeen and get three points.

“Coming to Pittodrie is difficult but we look on it as a missed opportunity.

“We have 11 games left and know the points we need to make the top six.

“You don’t get it handed to you – you must work hard. Our application and desire in the first half could have be better.”
