Martin’s on mend

-

when a knee injury forced him out of Graham Arnold’s Socceroos squad for Qatar.

Boyle will miss the rest of the current campaign but has told MailSport he’ll be back to his best next season.

As well as a comeback for Hibernian, the 29-year- old is planning a return to the international fold for a glamour friendly against England at Wembley in October.

And after the pain of Qatar, he’s determined to put himself in contention to play at the 2026 World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico.

Boyle said: “I’m hoping I’ve a chance of playing at a World Cup in 2026. I’ve had injuries before and came back strong.

“I’ll be 33 when it comes around and I’m quite young at heart. I’m hoping to be back before October but the England game at Wembley is a target for me.

“I knew about that fixture before it was released and that would be a special one.

“But I need to back playing well for Hibs to put myself in contention to be selected.

“The Asia Cup is in January and hopefully everything will be in place for me to be part of that too.

“It’s not the end for me, there’s still a lot to look forward to for Hibs and Australia.

“When I got my last knee injury, I missed the Asia Cup in 2019. This one ruled me out of the World Cup.

“I’ve had real bad luck for major tournaments.

“But it’s not the end of the world or the end of my career. I’ll be back to my best soon.”

That news will delight Hibs who are desperate to see their talisman back playing.

Boyle said: “I’m four months down the line and aiming to be back for pre-season.

“But I’ve been told not to rush it. That’s why we’ve ruled out this season.

“If you told me Hibs were in the Scottish Cup Final and I’d a chance – maybe I’d push it. But I’ve had a lot of advice and been told not to rush back.”
