Star gets date tips from Love Island sex expert
Single TV star Kirsty Gallacher has been given dating tips by Love Island’s sex guru.
And she has been advised to avoid meeting partners she’s linked up with online until she has spent weeks getting to know them.
The divorced TV presenter, 47, whose dad is Scots golfer Bernard Gallacher, has admitted she is scared of love- match apps as she fears having to sit through ill-matched dates.
But after talking to relationship expert Annabelle Knight, Kirsty has had a change of heart and has now decided to start looking for love on the internet again.
The ex-Sky Sports presenter said: “I never know if the dating app thing is for me. I’m slightly put off it because someone had put a fake account and profile of me on Bumble. I’m just frightened of it.
“I have all these scenarios of reasons not to go on an app.
I’m quite impatient and haven’t got that much time to waste. The thought of getting there [on a date] and then going, ‘Oh God, I don’t want to be here,’ is just a horrible feeling.” But Annabelle told her: “Have phone calls with people before. We are too ready to exchange a few messages then meet for a date. But you don’t have to go and meet someone straight away. “My husband and I didn’t go on a date for four weeks. We’d just have phone dates. I was cleaning out kitchen cupboards, doing a bit of housework, even filing my tax returns while we had a phone date once. We can meet someone in person and think, ‘Actually, I don’t think they’re fit,’ and focus on that rather than who they are.
“If you speak on the phone at least you can get some kind of intellectual and emotional connection before.”
The advice changed Kirsty’s outlook. She said: “That’s the way forward. I’m going back on the app and I’m going to try and kickstart it. Annabelle is spot-on.”
Kirsty has had two six- month relationships since splitting from former England rugby player husband Paul Sampson – one with another England rugby star, Danny Cipriani, and with Billie Piper’s ex, Laurence Fox.
She was also reported to have “had a romp” with comedian Jack Whitehal l and most recently split from ex-boxing champ Johnny Nelson.
In addition, Kirsty revealed an “obsessive” post-marriage relationship which “destroyed” her again, without naming the man. She said: “I invested a lot of time in one specific relationship who I was just a bit obsessive with and about, because I guess you’re trying to fill a void but also want to be loved again. Looking back, I wish I’d just not done that. It hurt me deeply and destroyed me again.”
Kirsty has also vowed to take on board another tip from Annabelle – to write down everything she is looking for in a man and make sure every box is ticked.
Annabelle told her: “Make yourself a list of characteristics, personality traits and things you’d like to see in your other half so you get a clear idea about what it is you’re looking for. Let yourself be picky.”
She added: “Kirsty has bounds of energy and tons of positivity. She’s saying, ‘ You know what, I’ve done my mourning period, I’m ready to meet someone.’”
