Ewen in to Fergie time now

-

Ewen Ferguson says he’s ready to “go for it” after an eagle three on the way in teed up a Sunday charge in South Africa.

The 26-year- old Scot shares sixth spot on 15 under – two shots behind Jonsson Workwear Open leader Alexander Knappe (65) – after a six-under 66 on day three.

Back-to-back bogeys on 14 and 15 saw Ferguson slip off the pace, only to send his second shot at 16 to three feet then birdie the next.

He said: “The eagle and birdie kind of made up for the bogeys. And I only just missed my birdie on the last. I’m really looking forward to the final round.

“You don’t get that many chances to win and when you have them, you go for it. If not and it doesn’t work out, you come back and try to do it again. I’m just going to give it everything.”

Four players are within one shot of German Knappe, while Connor Syme (70) is tied 50th on seven under and Calum Hill (74) three further back in a share of 71st.

■ Basketball star Jonny Bunyan admits ending Caledonia Gladiators’ painful 20-year wait for silverware today is personal.

Gareth Murray’s men square off with Cheshire Phoenix in the BBL Trophy Final in Glasgow.

Bunyan, 30, watched on in 2003 as the then Scottish Rocks won the play-off title with his brother Keith among their shooting stars.

A run of 10 defeats in finals later, Gladiators’ skipper said: “There’s a family dimension to this.

“It would be great that both the championships had a Bunyan playing, or a player who came through the ranks of Falkirk Fury. That means a lot to me.

“But it means a lot for loads of reasons, like for all the people in this club who have helped me out and gave me the chance.”
