Rachel is holding out hope

Ibrox w inger Rachel McLauchlan insists Rangers can still reel in Glasgow City to retain their title.

Many have already called the season for City who stormed 10-points clear at the top of the table with last night’s 2- 0 win over Hibs.

But with so many massive f ixtures sti l l to come, McLauchlan still reckons there’s time for them to claw back the gap.

“Yeah, I do,” she insisted. “There a re so many matches – big games at that – and I think there is a lot that can happen. All we can control is ourselves and that is what we are fully focused on doing.”

Leaders City have been outstanding under new manager Leanne Ross.

But Rangers can leapfrog Celtic if they beat their bitter rivals tomorrow night at Broadwood.

Fran Alonso’s Hoops beat Rangers 3- 0 last month and McLauchlan admi t s Rangers need a win if Malky Thomson’s side are to stage a late recovery.

The Scotland international has also accepted that any chat of revenge against Celtic is an irrelevance.

McLauchlan said: “We know how tight it is, especially with the results we have had – too many draws and a bad defeat to Celtic.

“It is going down to the wire and hopefully we can take it all the way and at least keep the pressure on.

“We know it is going to be difficult. There are some hard games but we need to be confident, focused and take it game by game.”

Broadwood has already sold out a stand for tomorrow night’s game with McLauchlan optimistic there will be a decent crowd.

It’s the third time in as many months that the teams have come up against one other.

McLauchlan said: “There’s been a lot but they are exciting games and ones we all want to play in.

“The split creates really competitive games and it makes it exciting, right to the wire, because there are so many hard matches.”
