Seventies heart-throb Donny Osmond says he wants to team up with Justin Bieber for an unusual collaboration – because they are so alike.

The 65-year-old who shot to fame with his fami ly group The Osmonds, revealed his secret ambition to work with the Baby superstar this week.

Donny, who topped the charts with his first single, Puppy Love, in 1972, said: “I’d love to do something with Justin Bieber because of the simi larities between our two careers.

“But that all depends on whether the planets align.” Justin, 29, who first found fame on YouTube, saw his career explode overnight af ter he became a heart-throb for millions of teenagers. Dubbing themselves Beliebers, some fans were so obsessed with him they would kiss the ground he walked on. One even attempted to bottle his breath.

Their devotion was so intense that the so-called “Justin Bieber effect” became a recognised phenomenon – boosting sales of anything promoted by the Canadian star.

In 2019, Iceland tourist bosses were forced to close a popular canyon after visitor numbers doubled – boosted by Justin filming a viral video there. At the height of Osmondmania, Donny was banned from Heathrow and Gatwick Airports and had to enter the UK by flying into Scotland and then taking a train down to London.

Donny will bring his Las Vegas show to the UK in November to mark 50 years since The Osmonds first sang here.

The star added: “It wasn’t until 1971 that we came over to the UK and Osmondmania hit.

“That wave of excitement spilled over to the US and that’s what real ly catapulted us, so it’s the UK that’s really responsible for me being where I am today.”
