Glasgow...73

Dragons ...33

Johnny Matthews played down his record-breaking fivetry tally as Glasgow marched into the European Challenge Cup quarter-finals.

The Scot land hooker was on fire as he became the first Warrior to get five.

Mat thews was typically modest and said: “All the credit goes to the boys at the front of the maul.

“They did all the work – and I’ve just been on the end of it.

“It’s great, you don’t do it for the records but I’m buzzing.

“The main thing is that we’re into the quarter-finals.

“We got ourselves into positions where we could execute.

“It’s brilliant for us to get through but we won’t get ahead of ourselves. We’ll reset and go again.

“Some of the tries we scored, fantastic team tries as well as the forwards doing the work up front.”

George Horne had opened the scoring for Glasgow before Matthews ran in four.

Jordan Williams, Rio Dyer and Jared Rosser replied in a first- half that saw Dragons’ Aki Seiuli sent off. Matthews notched his fifth after the break before George Turner, Coles Forbes, Huw Jones and two from Kyle Steyn made it a hammering.

Will Reed and Elliot Dee saved some face for the Welsh but now Glasgow wil l face Emirates Lions at Scotstoun in the lasteight on Saturday.

Glasgow head coach Franco Smith reckons his emphasis on attacking play has been fully vindicated.

Smith said: “It was good to get the result.

“We didn’t get the restarts done which allowed Dragons in, so there’s work to be done – but offensively we were good.

“We’ve got to stay focused.

“We’re going to play some top teams going forward.

“I’ve been criticised before for being too attack focused.

“We want to avoid giving away tries but it was important at the start of the season to look at Glasgow’s DNA, and that is attacking rugby – I think everyone has bought into that.”
