I can do a job for Clarke

- ■ Scott McDermott

Ryan Hardie has told Scotland boss Steve Clarke he’ll be ready for national service if called on.

The Plymouth Argyle striker has been tipped to earn his first full cap after bagging 17 goals for the Pilgrims this season.

He’s on the verge of helping the club reach the English Championship and wi l l appear at Wembley today in the EFL Trophy Final against Bolton.

Hardie knows Sunderland frontman Ross Stewart has shown you can be selected for Scotland at that level.

And the 26-year-old vows if he ever gets the call from Clarke, he won’t let him down.

Hardie said: “The job Steve is doing with Scotland is unbelievable.

“So to be linked with a potential call-up is amazing.

“If Plymouth and myself keep doing well, who knows what might happen? If I’m called on, I’ll be ready.

“I’m not saying I should be there. But it’s something I’d be proud of if it ever came up.

“Ross showed that it can be done. And hopefully it shows that I’m not that far away either.

“He got a call-up in League One and did well so the manager should know that if I get in, I’ll be ready for it.

“If the club get up this season, it might come for me.”

Hardie could cement his place in Plymouth’s history today by scoring his 50th goal for the club.

He’s out of contract this summer so could leave for free if they don’t achieve their goal of promotion.

But the former Rangers and Scotland Under-21 striker claims sorting out his future can wait.

He said: “The manager and I agreed at the start of the season that we would discuss it in the summer.

“We’ve just concentrated on the footbal l without distractions.

“I’ll definitely be speaking to the club at the end of the campaign.”
