TALLIA LANDS GIG AS A

- ■ Jenny Morrison

Singer Tallia Storm is set to play the tunes rather than sing them after landing a high-profile new job as a radio host.

But stars including Lewis Capaldi have told her not to give up on her dream of chart success.

Tallia was just 13-years-old when her singing talent was f i rst discovered by Elton John.

Since then, she has worked tirelessly to make a name for herself in the music industry.

While a hit single has so far eluded her, her TikTok videos have generated millions of views and she has appeared on shows including Celebs Go Dating.

Now she has been announced as one of the presenters of Capital Scotland’s brand new breakfast show.

She hopes the dream presenting job will help her achieve her singing dream too.

Tallia, 24, born in Glasgow, who is the daughter of PR guru and The Real Housewives of Jersey star Tessa Hartmann, said: “For the past 10 years, I have been working incredibly hard in this industry and while I’ve not yet had chart success, this new job at Capital Scotland shows that work has paid off.

“I’m one of those people that has always said you don’t know where your big break is going to come from. This is a prime example.

“It’s my dream to be a singer but my idol is J.Lo – Jennifer Lopez – and she does it all, singing, dancing, acting and presenting.

“Nowadays to be a popstar you have to have a foot in every door.

“I saw Lewis Capaldi at the Brit Awards earlier this year and he told me I was doing all the right things.

“I’d never properly met him before and after I told him I was his biggest fan he looked at me and said ‘ You’re Tallia Storm’.

“I was like ‘ No way. How do you know my name?’ and he said he saw me on TikTok all the time.

“Like Lewis, everyone I’ve met who has made it has told me the same – to keep working hard, doing what I love.

“Last year I was sat in Abbey Road Studios with the legendary Nile Rogers and I asked him what his secret was to success.

“He looked me in the eyes and said ‘ Tal lia – you just have to keep swinging that bat.

“You’ve no idea which ball will land, but you have to keep swinging’. And he’s so right.”

Tal l ia, who wi l l present the breakfast show alongside Fat Brestovci, hopes her new role as a

POP HOPES radio presenter will be the ideal opportunity for people to get to know her. Tallia made headlines earlier this year when she attended the Brit Awards in a daring pink string bikini, designed by her family’s HartiSWIM fashion label.

She is also known for being a former gi rl friend of Brooklyn Beckham. She hopes the radio show will allow her to show off her true personality. Tallia, who often appeared alongside her mum on The Real Housewives of Jersey, said:

“My plan is to be myself.

“I don’t shut up, I l ike to think I’m quite funny, and I happily take the Mickey out of myself.

“The mos t successful presenters

– like Lorraine Kelly and Holly Willoughby – are the ones who don’t try to be anyone else.

In terms of Scots who have gone all the way, Lorraine is an idol – she’s an inspiration to me.

“She has never given up. She has never taken her eye off the ball, you can see how kind she is and that she really cares. Like her I just want to channel being genuine.

“For years now I’ve been doing my TikTok videos, interviewing peopBle like Pete Wicks and Chris Eubank Junior. I was building up experience of being a presenter without really know it, and now presenting is such a natural thing for me.

“I’ve a lot to learn – the only time I’ve worked in a radio station is when I’ve been interviewed – but I’m so looking forward to it.”

While Tallia currently lives in London she wi l l move back to Glasgow before Capital Scotland’s new breakfast show launches on Monday, 2 May.

She admits she is nervous about having to get up at 4am every weekday morning for a 6am start.
