We were not good enough
Derek Adams admitted Ross County went badly off-colour after suffering his first defeat since returning to Dingwall.
As an eight-year run without a win in Paisley was extended, the Staggies boss claimed his side’s display was well below par and they merited nothing from the contest.
Adams said: “I was a bit disappointed in the way we didn’t take the game to St Mirren.
“When we were 2-0 down we were still trying to pass it – forgetting the object of the game is to score goals.
“We didn’t play as well as we can do or have done. We didn’t deserve to win the game.
“The first goal was always going to be pivotal in this game. St Mirren got it, quite rightly the VAR ruled it over the line.
“We didn’t play as well
as we have done in previous weeks. Coming away from home, it’s a venue where Ross County haven’t done as well at over the years.
“Over the afternoon I thought we started OK, we put St Mirren under a wee bit of pressure, and we understood it was difficult for them as they were under a bit of pressure to get the win. But they have been able to get their second win in 11 games.
“We were trying to stop them from passing the ball.
“We nearly nicked it a couple of times off their centre-halves but we just weren’t good enough in that final third.
“We need to be better in the final third but we also have to be better defensively at times.
“It wasn’t like St Mirren opened us up, they had some good opportunities but you’re going to have that as the home team.
“I thought we played well at times but we have to do a lot better at the simple things.”
