It’s not quite time four the title party at Bairns

Callumn gets fans in the mood but champagne on ice

- JOHN DOCHERTY AT FALKIRK STADIUM

FALKIRK delivered their part of the bargain but the title-winning champagne is on ice for another week.

Four goals from Callumn Morrison, taking his tally to 23, sealed an emphatic victory but it wasn’t enough as nearest challengers Hamilton won.

Falkirk will be crowned if they win at Montrose on Saturday and Bairns boss John McGlynn said: “We did our bit, that was all we could do.

“I never thought it would be won today but we had to make sure we did our job.

“In the first half, as much as we were 2-0 up and could have been 3- 0 or 4- 0 up, it was scrappy, I didn’t think it was a great performance. Second half the football was better.

“We tweaked things at halftime. I put the wingers back out wide and it helped the flow of the game. Once we opened up a bit more we could have scored more. Hopefully we can now get the job done next week.”

Morrison has played a massive role this season and McGlynn added: “Callumn is now top goalscorer in Scotland and he’s not a striker, he’s a winger. So to score so many goals is great.”

The Bairns almost got off to a perfect start after just eight minutes but Ross MacIver curled the ball past the post with the goal at his mercy.

It was City who came close to breaking the deadlock when Oliver MacDonald’s drive from close range was blocked by keeper Sam Long.

Falkirk took the lead on the hour mark when Morrison coolly scored from the spot following Frankie Dean’s challenge on Sean Mackie.

It was 2-0 just on the stroke of half-time when Morrison converted from eight yards. The mood got even better when the news filtered through that Cove had drawn level, signalling the start of wild celebrations among the Falkirk support

It was 3- 0 just after the hour when Morrison drilled the ball past Ruairidh Adams. And the rampant Bairns winger almost got his fourth when his shot was blocked by City keeper Adams’ knee

Falkirk sub Ethan Ross tried to get in on the act but his attempt went narrowly over.

Morrison did get his fourth, again from the spot, after he was brought down by Quinn Mitchell before Momodou Sambou slotted home a late consolation for City.
