Boyd The Jojo show is the tonic we all need right now

-

I’VE to have a little operation, which I am absolutely dreading, so I have been taking a step back from work for a few days.

However, I couldn’t turn down the chance to interview someone who is fast becoming a treasured TV favourite – Johannes Radebe.

The star of Strictly Come Dancing, Jojo lit up our screens on Saturday nights and has become a firm favourite with everyone – from nanas to nippers.

Everybody I told I was going to interview him replied with “I looooove him”. It’s easy to see why.

He is genuinely a ray of sunshine with the most infectious chuckle I have ever heard and a very cheeky glint in his eye which makes me know he would be the best person on a night out.

This is me manifesting that to make it happen.

An absolute tonic and, when I hadn’t been feeling the best, my goodness, did time with this man brighten my day.

Johannes didn’t have the easiest start in life.

Growing up in South Africa, he was bullied for being gay and his love of dance. Thank goodness it didn’t put him off.

He’s coming to Scotland on tour with his dance spectacular House of JOJO and, if you can get tickets to see the show in Glasgow or Edinburgh, you are genuinely in for a treat.

As he says, it will bring you joy and laughter through his incredible moves and story, all the while being as camp as Christmas.

Right up my street.

What I loved about Johannes is

that he doesn’t shy away from talking about the tough times.

His experiences in his childhood from bereavement to setbacks – he shows you should never give up on a dream.

What I also got from him is that he is loving and relishing every moment and opportunity that comes his way – just as he should. He adored his last Strictly partner, Annabel Croft, and some of his dances with John Whaite in the previous series are the best I have ever seen on the show.

A true talent with the most fascinating stories, it’s no wonder his memoir, Jojo: Finally Home, is being made into a movie and I cannot wait to see it.

For now, you can watch Johannes on Friday at 7pm on What’s on Scotland as I discover his dream partner and what he’s really looking forward to about his trip north. A night out with me, I hope!
