BATTLING Bonnyrigg Rose came from behind to hand boss Calum Elliot a first win and ease their drop fears.

Veteran East Fife forward Alan Trouten celebrated picking up his Player of the Month award by heading home Liam Newton’s eight-minute cross.

But Rose top scorer Neil Martyniuk netted his 12th of the campaign to level it before team-mate Ross Gray volleyed in Dean Watson’s cross.

Rose stretched their lead before half-time when Watson’s 30-yard effort came back off the bar and Bradley Barrett was on hand to tap home the rebound.

They made sure of the win, which moved them four points clear of bottom side Clyde, when defender Kerr Young got on the end of Lee Currie’s corner to score.

KIERAN SHANKS stepped up to the plate and set up two goals as Peterhead stretched their unbeaten run to six games.

After veteran striker Rory McAllister picked up an injury in the warm-up, Shanks replaced him and was the provider for Hamish Ritchie and Jack Brown’s goals.

After a goalless first half, Shanks flicked a corner into the path of Ritchie, with the midfielder able to poke the ball beyond Loons keeper Marc McCallum four minutes into the second period.

Draw specialists Forfar managed to pull level after 71 minutes when Dan Scally headed in Tomas Brindley’s cross.

However, the winner came 10 minutes from time when Shanks slid the ball into the path of Brown, who cut inside and fired a shot low into the corner of the net.

STRANRAER’S stalemate saw them move off bottom spot after gaining a valuable point on Clyde.

Spartans’ Cammy Russell went close to an early goal when he sprung the offside trap and was through on goal only to be denied by keeper Lewis Budinauckas.

Opposing goalie Blair Carswell was then called into action to hold Deryn Lang’s shot from distance.

Stranraer’s best chance of the game arrived just after half-time when good football down the right saw Grant Gallagher’s cross headed back across goal by Dylan Forrest and into the path of Ben Armour but the Blues striker saw his effort cleared off the line.

Lang was to be denied a second time when he too was stopped on the line, with neither side able to find a late winner.

JAMES HILTON’S second-half f ree- kick helped secure Dumbarton’s play- off place – and sent Clyde spinning back to the basement.

Both sides came close to a first-half goal, first when Hilton had an early effort ruled out for offside.

At the other end, Clyde’s Ray Grant saw his effort from the edge of the area come back off the post.

Jordan Allan, who grabbed the winner last weekend, had the ball in the net for the Bully Wee in the second half but saw it ruled out by the offside flag.

Sons went close on 72 minutes when they got in behind the Clyde defence but Carlo Pignatiello dragged his shot past the post.

Hilton then popped up with his fifth goal of the season a minute later when he curled a 25- yard free- kick into the bottom corner.
