YOUKENNY STOP US

- BY MICHAEL BAILLIE

GLENN MIDDLETON insists Dundee United are going all in to take the prize pot of Championship glory.

The Tannadice outfit are closing in on the title following their 4-1 win over Morton on Friday night.

Poker-faced Middleton, who scored United’s second, insists his side won’t fold in their quest for a Premiership return as he revealed Kenny Rogers’ hit The Gambler has become a pre-match anthem for the run-in.

Middleton said: “Craig Sibbald is the dressing room DJ and we’ve got a bit of a routine going just now, so before the start of every game The Gambler is played, it gets everyone going.

“It came on once and it clicked and before you know it we’re clear at the top. So there’s no chance we’re changing that, it’s sticking until the end of the season.

“But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. There has never been a case of us getting too carried away. We’ve always been very level headed and that’s probably making it that little bit more enjoyable to be a part of.

“Hopefully we can just carry on and get over the line and achieve what we want to achieve.”

Middleton scored his fifth of the season but he leads the league with 11 goal assists and insists that gives him just as big a thrill.

He said: “Everyone says when you score there is no better feeling but I love getting assists as well.

“I practise my crosses and set-pieces a lot so when you get to put one on a plate for someone else it’s as good a feeling for me.”

Skipper Ross Docherty set United on their way in Friday win at Cappielow. Louis Moult and Tony Watt both got on the scoresheet in the second half and Middleton insists it is a joy for him to play alongside the front pair.

He said: “You don’t get to play with that level of player too often in your career so when you are you have to enjoy it.

“They are two unbelievable players and we’re very lucky to have them.

“They have been ever so reliable throughout the season for us.

“More times than not they are going to be there for you in the box.

“They know where the ball is going and if they get a chance it’s likely to end up in the back of the net.”
