Erin: Scots on the edge of a special adventure

- BY SCOTT McDERMOTT

SHE’S only 25. But it doesn’t just feel like Erin Cuthbert is one of Scotland’s experienced leaders. She IS one.

And the Chelsea forward is out to end the season on a high for club and country.

At Stamford Bridge, Cuthbert is a key player for Emma Hayes’ side who are going for a title, FA Cup and Champions League treble.

And with Scotland she’s going to be pivotal for Pedro Martinez Losa’s team who are trying to reach Euro 2025.

Cuthbert has been named Scottish Football Writers Association Women’s International Player of the Year.

And despite not reaching her prime, Cuthbert hopes to be a positive influence on her team-mates.

The Scots picked up their first competitive win in seven against Slovakia at Hampden last week.

And the former Rangers and Glasgow City striker said: “Being a senior player, which is quite weird to say at 25, I probably do regard myself as part of the leadership group with Scotland.

“It’s a lot on us that we have to guide the group. But I know how it feels to go to a major tournament.

“I feel we are on the edge of something special.”

Cuthbert has returned to Chelsea feeling refreshed and confident ahead of what could be a thrilling finish to the season.

Today, she’ll be in the Blues side for their FA Cup semi against Manchester United. In midweek, Hayes’ team face Barcelona in the Champions League last four.

Chelsea are second in the Women’s Super League, three points off leaders Manchester City. Cuthbert said: “I have come back very happy, ready to go again.

“The break came at a perfect time for me after I was overwhelmed by so many games at club level.”

She’s delighted with her SFWA award and said: “It’s lovely to be recognised but it’s a team sport and we have to now kick on, be successful and get Scotland to a major tournament.”
