Kai in great position to get Gunners over the line

- BY JOSHUA MBU

ARSENAL are ready to conquer Old Trafford again and Kai Havertz is the man to do it according to one of the Gunners’ Invincibles.

The German has had his doubters since making the £ 65million move from Chelsea last summer.

A loss of form and being deployed in different positions hasn’t made for an easy transition.

But a double as a striker against Chelsea and a goal against Spurs have given Havertz the confidence he needs ahead of the clash with Manchester United this afternoon.

And Gilberto Silva – part of the side that won the Premier League 20 years ago – said: “He is playing a different role from what he did in the past but he has been brilliant.

“When he came in some people believed it’s not a match for Arsenal’s style. He can’t fit into the team.

“It was a little bit difficult for him at the start and also for Mikel Arteta to find his best position.

“But slowly, with patience and try, try again, they both have found it. Kai has been a team player and despite his early struggles has performed so well.”

Gilberto also believes that Havertz is benefiting from the impact of fellow new boys such as Leandro Trossard, who joined in January 2023. After coming up short last season, Arsenal added England lynchpin Declan Rice to their midfield.

Gilberto said: “It helps a lot that you don’t depend on just a few players to score goals.

“Declan is powerful, he gets the ball back from the opponent but also with the run forward.

“You play for a big club like Arsenal, the expectation is quite high, but this season they are very solid.”
