Rows & rows of space in KIA EV9 that’ll fit in whole generations of your family

- BY MAGGIE BARRY

IT’S backbreaking work being a grandparent – especially when you are getting those little delinquents in and out of their rear car seat.

So I was delighted when the lovely lady from Nuna suggested that I try out her pruu model – a version that swivels and can take grandchildren from babies up to four years – what a saving.

I thought that I would wait to try it out on the new KIA EV9, a car that has won many awards including UK Car of the Year, Family Car of the Year and Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year, which I thought was just the right kind of accolade.

Trust me – in these things women always know best.

The seat fits easily in the rear of this big, roomy SUV with Isofix fittings in row two, both behind the driver and behind the passenger.

At a pinch, I thought that I could possibly even fit in the middle between two baby seats but in this car, you don’t have to – there is a roomy third row of seats. I’d actually put them down to begin with because we had been lugging a big parcel.

When I said to my husband they’d need to be lowered, he looked at me dubiously but this is a KIA and they always put more than a little thought into making things easier for the driver.

I’d a look in the rear and sure enough found two sets of buttons – one for the second row and one for the third row. I pressed the third and the seats slowly and efficiently flattened themselves to allow for a huge 2318 litres of space. My goodness, you could get a washing machine in there.

To be sure – once my model Rose was in the car seat – I pressed the buttons and the seats raised themselves without so much as nudging her car seat.

The KIA EV9 comes in three trim levels with this, the GT-Line, the middle one.

It is large, a plush family SUV with a grey and ivory i n ter i o r, heated and ventilated seats in the front and second row and fitted manual window blinds in the second too.

Handy when you are transporting two little ones.

There are six USB-C charge ports so loads of charging for all the family as well as a wireless pad at the front.

It comes with a 12.3inch central touchscreen and a 12.3inch driver display with video on the panel when you activate the indicators to keep you even safer.

There are piles of other safety features too and overthe-air updates.

KIA’s EV9 is recognised as something of a trailblazer in electric vehicles for its range – 313 miles. And for its practicality, ease of operating and comprehensive kit onboard.

Thanks to the multitude of cameras, it is really easy to park and this particular allwheel-drive model delivers 378bhp.

Indeed, this is the perfect family car, belching out no fumes as the quiet electric drive lulls crying babies to sleep.
