THIS OLD ART OF MINE
Rod’s song paints new picture for kids’ charity
ONE of his most famous early solo albums was Every Picture Tells a Story.
Sir Rod Stewart is now living up to that message on his 1971 hit with the release of a new series of art.
They’ll tell the story of one of his most loved songs, Forever Young.
The limited edition run of prints has been created by charity foundation, Soundswaves Art, which produces unique work from iconic songs.
Rod, 79, teamed up with artist Tim Wakefield for the piece made from sound waves of his 1988 tune, featuring the words, “be courageous and be brave”.
He’s personally signed 100 of the prints, which will be sold with all funds heading to the War Child UK charity that supports children caught up in conflict across the world and has been supported by music stars for decades.
The rocker announced the release of the print on social media yesterday. Pictured at his home in a Celtic tracksuit, he said: “I’ve teamed up with @soundwaves_art to release a very limited collection of artwork created from the audio of Forever Young.
“Every artwork has been hand signed by myself and the soundwaves artist Tim Wakefield to support the incredible work of @ warchilduk, a nonprof it organisation protecting, educating and providing psychosocial support to children in warzones around the world.”
Four signed originals, at $2500 each, have already sold out but the 100 signed prints are selling for $470 each while another 100 unsigned versions are $ 75. Texas-based Soundwaves has been supported by some of the world’s biggest artists including Roger Taylor, Sheryl Crow, Leann Rimes, Josh Stone, Graham Nash, Nile Rodgers and Johnny Marr.
