BUT POCH WARNS: KEEP WINNING OR WE WILL CATCH YOU

- BY TOM HOPKINSON

TOTTENHAM 4 WATFORD 0

MAURICIO POCHETTINO warned Chelsea that his Spurs side will be ready to pounce on any mistakes after watching them hand Watford a 4-0 drubbing.

Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Heung-Min Son scored three excellent goals in the first half to settle the game as a contest.

And Son struck again after the break — his seventh in five games — to put the seal on a fine display.

To add to Pochettino’s delight, Harry Kane returned from his four-week injury lay-off and he was unlucky not to score late on when he smashed a 30-yard free-kick against the crossbar.

Pochettino (left) said: “It’s good for us. We’re talking about building that winning mentality.

“It was a good opportunity to be aware that, in the future, to win trophies you have to keep going, pushing, believing and respect the way you play. That’s

the most important thing. The message for us is to keep pushing and winning games.

“That’s our job and then what happens with Chelsea is their problem. It’s still up to them to win the Premier League.”

Alli (right) and Son were superb, but so too was right-back Kieran Trippier, whose crosses caused Watford all sorts of problems and whose performance earned him the man-of-the-match award from Sky.

“The performance was good from Kieran — he deserved to be rewarded,” added Pochettino.

“From the beginning, it was a tough game. They were very motivated to play and showed good energy, but after 18 to 20 minutes we read the game very well, started to control it and created a lot of chances.

“We dominated and, in the end, deserved the three points.”

Naturally, he was buoyed by Kane’s return as well.

Pochettino said: “Today we’re stronger with him healthy and ready to fight again for the team.” Watford boss Walter Mazzarri accepted his side had been beaten by a much better team.

He said: “Tottenham were phenomenal — they have top players on the pitch and top players on the bench.

“As we say in Italian, the third goal cut our legs off.”
