Rodgers so close

-

the word definitely seems to be he’ll stay on for at least another year, maybe even two.

I think that is a mistake, a big one. As much as I truly respect and admire him, as much as I believe he’s been treated badly by the fans who’ve forgotten what he has done for the club, I still think his time has come. You see some of his decisions this season and maybe he’s finally losing his edge. It happens to the greatest.

For me, beating Chelsea in the Cup final is a way of Wenger going out with a bit of dignity and pride.

If he wins it then announces he’s going, listen for the deafening sound of praise for his genius – probably from the same people who have shouted so loudly for his head.

Like players, managers need to know when it’s time. And Wenger, who has done so much for the game, deserves to go on his terms.

It would be something if he surprises us with an announcement next Saturday evening. And I for one will be cheering. BRENDAN RODGERS and his Celtic side are 90 minutes from making history today.

If they avoid defeat at home to Hearts, Rodgers’ men will complete an unbeaten league campaign – the first title-winning Scottish club to do so in more than a century. The last team to achieve it were Rangers in 1898-99.

Rodgers said: “I believe players were still playing with caps on then!

“Any manager will tell you about the extremes and difficulties you face in a season, the psychological twists and turns.

“So to go through it, having equalled the record of 33 wins and four draws, would be fantastic.”
