CHERRIES SWEET ON TRANSFER CHANGES

- BY TOM HOPKINSON

BOURNEMOUTH chairman Jeff Mostyn reckons the decision to close the transfer window before the start of next season will create a more even playing field in the Premier League.

Mostyn’s Cherries were among more than 14 clubs who voted to bring forward deadline day from the end of August.

“Now you know that up until January, when the window reopens, these are the squads that will be playing, said Mostyn (below). “From a smaller club’s perspective and for the Premier League as a competition, players starting the season are going to get you through to the next window, subject to injury.

“From AFC Bournemouth’s perspective, we were in favour of the window closing when it will next year. Traditionally we have made our plans early.

“You don’t always get what you wish for but we have been lucky getting players in prior to the pre-season so we can enjoy the benefits of having them with the squad.

“I can understand why the ‘elite clubs’ would want the window to remain open to marry in with the European leagues, as their players could potentially be sold when they don’t have the ability to reciprocate.

“European clubs could have a little nibble, but to all intents and purposes it sets the scene for a level start.

“The league has a duty of care to have the best players starting the games.”
