-4C as Arctic winds blast Britain

- BY STEPHEN HAYWARD

THOUSANDS of starlings create mesmerising patterns in the sky before roosting under Aberystwyth pier in west Wales last night.

Theyhave returned from summer in Scandinavia and may need tostay even closer for warmth as blasts of Arcticair send temperatures plunging across Britain.

They could go as low as minus 4C in Scotland tonight – colder than Iceland.

Widespread frost is expected and gales of up to 50mph are feared in the North of England today.

Bookmaker Coral said: “Odds of 10-11 suggest we will see snow in mainland UK before the month is out.”
