In 1851, Isaac M. Singer patented the first truly usable sewing machine. The treadle ones are beautiful, but are difficult to sell on. Models made before the 1960s are difficult to date as the company has incomplete records. Unfortunately, despite being an antique, your tabletop Singer is worth only £20 or so as they sold by the million – and tend to last.
