It’s all fright on the night

Nearly a third of owners have had a pet run away at least once – more than half of them because they were scared by fireworks.

The survey by Pets at Home and Petplan found one in five had to go looking for their pet after it ran off because of the bangs and flashes.

Others included pets who bolted when the door was left open, or those chasing another animal.

Belfast was worst for firework frights, affecting nearly half of owners.
