DUAL stars Slaughtneil’s dreams of a ‘double double’ are very much on after a hard-fought Ulster club win over Omagh St Enda’s.

The defending Derry and Ulster hurling and football champions won 0-10 to 0-8 at Celtic Park and now play either Scotstown or Kilcar in the semi-finals.

Three-in-a-row Fermanagh champions Derrygonnelly are also through to the Ulster football semi-finals.

They had a 2-8 to 1-8 win over Armagh Harps at Brewster Park after both teams finished with 13 players.

Slaughtneil led from start to finish last night, scoring the opening four points.

Christopher ‘Sammy’ Bradley, who scored the injury-time winner when the sides last met three years ago, nailed two early points to assert Slaughtneil’s dominance.

The home side were guilty of missed chances though and hit nine wides in the opening half.

Omagh had a good second quarter against a strong breeze.

They drew level at five points each but Shane McGuigan’s point restored a slender lead, 0-6 to 0-5, at the break.

Crucially, Slaughtneil tagged on the opening two points of the second half as they then had Chrissy McKaigue black carded for hauling down Conan Grugan, Ronan O’Neill tapping over the free to give Omagh hope.

Joe McMahon’s ‘45’ had them back in it but Slaughtneil used all their experience to see it out.

Two early goals from

Paul Ward (penalty) and Conal Jones gave Derrygonnelly the platform to win their first ever Ulster club game.

They hit both inside 90 second of each other and were 2-1 to 0-0 ahead before Joe McElroy got Armagh Harps on the board after 18 minutes.

Derrygonnelly led 2-4 to 0-4 at half time but the second half was a dour affair with both sides having two players sent off. They’ll next face the winners of today’s clash between Cavan Gaels and Lamh Dhearg of Antrim.
