Damage to royal brand could leave its Markle

Sunday Mirror (Northern Ireland) - - News - BY ROBERT JOBSON Royal Author: The Future Royal Family

THE Royals have had their share of past media debacles – the file on the Duchess of York is still excruciating reading.

But the Queen has never faced anything like this. The Duchess of Sussex’s Markle relations do not want to shut up.

Her father Thomas says he is upset his daughter hasn’t been in touch. Her half-sister Samantha says if anything happens to their father she will have it on her conscience. Talking

publicly about family squabbles is an anathema to the Queen.

In PR disaster terms, with the Markles it has reached breaking point.

Meghan is now said to be too scared to jump on a plane and see her dad, because she no longer trusts him not to blab.

Yet however cheap the Markles’ behaviour, there is something sad and compelling here.

The royals would do well to realise that, for all his faults, Meghan’s father clearly loves her.

The stress has clearly impacted on his already frail health. And with every interview, more damage is being done to Meghan, her family – and the royal brand too.
