Viewers’ fury over cameos in Bodyguard

Sunday Mirror (Northern Ireland) - - News - BY PETER ROBERTSON

The BBC has been inundated with complaints after handing cameo roles in hit drama Bodyguard to 14 of its own presenters.

Viewers accused it of “blurring the line between fact and fiction” after the likes of Andrew Marr, Sophie Raworth and Laura Kuenssberg fronted news reports during the show.

Yesterday, BBC head of news Gavin Allen was challenged on air by Newswatch’s Samira Ahmed, who read out a series of complaints.

BBC guidelines state it is “normally inappropriate for a BBC correspondent in the field to front a fictional news report.”

However, Mr Allen insisted: “The concern would be if you thought this is actually happening. Nobody thinks that.”
