The highly-rated shotstopper got his fingertips to a Sammy Clingan piledriver, lifting it onto the post, before denying Josh Daniels’ spectacular curling strike which he tipped onto the bar. And all that came alongside a routine penalty save by the Monaghan man.

Philip Donnelly had given the visitors the lead against the run of play but Stephen Murray levelled before the break after missing the earlier penalty.

“People will talk about Aaron’s saves and rightly so,” said Point boss Stephen McDonnell. “We are very lucky to have him. But Jonny Tuffey also made two great saves when we were having a good spell at the start of the second half.

“I was delighted with every aspect of our game. Taking points off Linfield and Glenavon is great but we have to play to at that level every week.”

Warrenpoint had a fortunate start on eight minutes when Anto Reilly appeared to tug Murray in the penalty area but

LINFIELD lost ground on leaders Glenavon after suffering a 2-1 defeat to resurgent COLERAINE.

The Bannsiders took the lead when Matthew Clarke turned Darren McCauley’s shot into his own net after 18 minutes and after halftime it was 2-0 as Kirk Millar deflected a corner into his own net.

Bizarrely a third own goal halved the deficit when Millar’s corner was diverted in but Rodney McAree’s troops held on for a moraleboosting victory.

Elsewhere, BALLYMENA UNITED continued their fine form with a 1-0 win over GLENTORAN at the Oval.

Ex-Glens ace Jonny Addis bagged the only goal on 13 minutes as the Sky Blues made it 16 points from a possible 18.

CRUSADERS are also getting back to form and secured back-to-back wins with a narrow 1-0 win over ARDS. Paul Heatley netted on 64 minutes (inset), from a tight angle.

Lowly DUNGANNON came from behind to see off INSTITUTE. Dean Curry gave Stute the lead but a Paul McElroy brace gave Swifts a first league win since ex-boss Rodney McAree left.
