Stab vest & body cams call

-

PARAMEDIC Paul Turner paid for self-defence classes after being viciously attacked by a patient as passers-by filmed it.

“He elbowed me in the head and punched my colleague in the chin,” he said. “No one tried to help.

I’ve colleagues who have had knives and guns drawn on them.” Paul, 36, is GMB’s deputy branch secretary at North West Ambulance Service. He wants paramedics kitted out with body cameras and thinks stab vests should be trialled.

He said: “I’ve seen it with the police. As soon as the camera is turned on, the suspect starts to behave. It could make a difference.”
