Here’s a small tip
Small and mediumsized businesses are the backbone of our economy. They’ve created three times more jobs in the past five years than big employers.
Trouble is, their appeal to under-30s isn’t great. Two thirds don’t want to work for SMEs, according to research by Santander, who I work for sometimes as a consultant.
So the bank has set up a Universities SME Internship programme to connect graduates to small businesses, paying firms £1,500 per intern if they give them up to 10 weeks of paid work experience.
A fantastic idea which could change the Generation Z/ Millennials mindset. Small firms tend to offer a variety of experiences and skills and the flexibility to get involved in a wider range of tasks.
Dream big by all means, but it can pay to think small when starting out.
Having been on The Chase, I’m in awe of Anne Hegerty, aka The Governess, for her huge brain and total recall of facts. But since seeing her talk about her autism on I’m A Celebrity, my admiration has gone through the roof.
Because her brave performance in the jungle is already helping some autistic kids to realise that their career options aren’t as limited as they had feared.
Noel Edmonds might be the jungle emporer, this year, but Anne is my queen.
