End with a Ror not a whimper

- IRISH LEAGUE ROUND-UP

CRUSADERS continued their recent revival with a last-gasp 3-2 victory over INSTITUTE.

Rory Patterson kept his cool to score from the spot in injury-time for the champions after David Cushley had been upended by Jamie Dunne.

Patterson had fired the Crues into a first half lead but Michael McCrudden’s penalty drew ‘Stute level.

Paul Heatley restored Stephen Baxter’s side’s advantage but visiting skipper McCrudden levelled for a second time before Patterson’s late intervention.

Elsewhere, GLENAVON ended their slump with a

3-1 win over ARDS at Mourneview Park.

Andrew Mitchell opened the scoring before Josh Daniels doubled the Lurgan Blues’ lead.

Michael McLellan pulled a goal back for the basement boys but ex-Northern Ireland international Sammy Clingan made sure Gary Hamilton’s men earned their first win in four.

COLERAINE’S indifferent form continued as Alan O’Sullivan’s strike and Robbie Norton’s penalty gave WARRENPOINT TOWN a deserved 2-1 win at the Q Radio Arena.

Derry City target Darren McCauley had levelled for the Bannsiders but they failed to capitalise.

In the day’s other fixture, Seanan Clucas was the hero as DUNGANNON SWIFTS saw off GLENTORAN with a 1-0 win at Stangmore Park.

BALLYMENA UNITED had briefly enjoyed the view from the top of the table thanks to a 2-1 win at NEWRY CITY on Friday night.
