FULL RANGE OF MORELOS

- BY DAVID McCARTHY

ALFREDO MORELOS only got half an hour but the Colombian was the man who mattered as Rangers finally put Livingston away to go second in the league.

A Daniel Candeias header from a corner had given the hosts a halftime lead against a stubborn Livingston side.

But it took the introduction of supersub Morelos (above) to end the West Lothian outfit’s resistance at a time when they were threatening to grab a point.

He grabbed the all important second goal, then got himself booked for dissent to earn a future suspension before setting up Scott Arfield for the third goal that put gloss on a performance that had been more matt finish until then.

All in all, just another day in the life of Morelos but his importance to this

Rangers title challenge cannot be over stated.

And the win means a victory at Tynecastle next week can take Steven Gerrard’s side to the top of the Premiership – a position left-back Andy Halliday admits would be remarkable after the trials and tribulations Rangers have suffered during his time at the club.

Halliday said: “If you want to be in a title race and win medals, you have to win these type of games.

“It’s sets us up for the chance to go top of the league against Hearts next week.

“It’s a refreshing scenario compared to the last couple of seasons with the positions we’ve been in during the time I’ve been here.

“I think it’s testament to the growth that the squad has had this year. The next two games could pretty much define our season. We’ve got a chance to advance to the knockout stages of the Europa League a year after being knocked out by

Progres, and we’ve a chance to go top of the league.”
