A new livery and hull design for Carnival’s latest and largest 5,200-passenger ship has been revealed as construction gets under way.
The first steel has been cut for the XL class vessel, which will be 180,000 gross tonnage, 1,130ft long and the first operating in North America to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG).
She is being built at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland and will be delivered in 2020 to homeport in Port Canaveral, Florida, with a second XL ship starting construction in 2020 for a debut in 2022 to mark the 50th anniversary of Carnival Cruise Line.
The new sweeping red, white and blue look celebrates the line’s American heritage and is a nod to the colour of officers’ uniforms. Carnival president Christine Duffy said: ‘’This new ship promises to be truly special.” carnival.com
