Man accused of murdering tragic model & mum Jasmine
A MAN appeared in court last night charged with the murder of model Jasmine McMonagle.
Richard Burke is accused of killing the Co Donegal mum, 28, who was
found dead at her home. The defendant appeared at a special sitting of Sligo District Court before Judge Kevin Kilrane.
Wearing a grey top and grey tracksuit bottoms, Burke was charged with murder contrary to common law.
The accused, who was represented by solicitor Frank Dorrian, did not speak during the brief appearance.
Burke, from Forest Park, Killygordon, Co Donegal, was brought to court amid heavy security from Letterkenny Garda station.
Detective Sergeant Michael Galvin told the court he arrested the accused at 3.15pm yesterday at the station.
When charged, Burke replied: “I understand everything.”
Garda Superintendent Colm Nevin applied to have the accused remanded in custody to appear again at Harristown Court on Friday. This was granted by Judge Kilrane.
Mother-of-two Ms McMonagle, who was originally from Castlefinn, was found dead at Forest Park at 7.30am on Friday.
Ms McMonagle, an aspiring actress and model, was pronounced dead at the scene by a local doctor.
Burke was arrested at the scene by members of the Garda’s Regional Response Unit just before 7.30am.
He was taken to Letterkenny Garda station for questioning before he was formally charged yesterday.
