What’s it worth?
Q I have Status Quo’s vinyl album On The Level, from 1974. The sleeve is signed by Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi. Any idea what it’s worth, please? Joan Maiorano, Northallerton, North Yorks
A
I assume that What You’re Proposing is to sell this item – and best of luck with it. If it’s in great condition it should be worth £100 to £150. A really valuable Quo item would be a guitar used by the band. One owned by the late Rick Parfitt once sold for £2,937.
Q Could you give me some information about my magazine collection, which dates from 1938? The issues are in fair condition. Richard Heslop, via email
A Classic British comics are collectables but are usually far less valuable than US gems. The first true British comic is considered to be Funny Folks, which appeared in 1874. The first British comic strip hero was
Ally Sloper of Ally Sloper’s
Half-Holiday, which ran from 1884 to 1916. Modern
Wonder, aimed at boys and men, started in 1937 and was published by Odhams of Watford until it folded in
1941. Good copies typically sell for £10 or so.
Q I’ve got a Princess
Diana Beanie Baby in mint condition and am thinking of selling. Can you give me any advice – and say what it’s worth? Beverley Charles, via email
A
Beanie Babies were created by Ty Warner and there are special magazines and clubs dedicated to the toys. The Diana ones are purple, have a white rose embroidered on the left side of the bear and a purple ribbon around the neck. All profits from original sales went to the Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, after her death in 1997. There is a lot of confusion and apparent misinformation around values. Some sellers are seeking thousands. In most cases, bearing in mind specialist advice should be sought, they will be worth well under £100. I urge owners to view the detailed notes online at tycollector.com
