NI Life & Style My Spring/Summer supermarket sweep
WWho knew toddlers could be so complicated...or such hard work? On the days I am in the office I can easily tap away on my keyboard until well after deadline (11pm) yet on my “days off ” (i.e. the days I am looking after my little bundle of mayhem) I collapse into bed at 8pm... feeling a little less of a person than I was when I got out of it that morning...and looking about 10 years older. I am disappointed to say I have resorted to two things I always said (as a know-it-all singleton) I would never do with my child. They are: 1. Bribery 2. iParenting. Sometimes I even combine the two – bribing my child with my iPad. That’s a new low.
You may judge, but both come in handy a lot of the time, but especially when we are in one of two places. These are: 1. Restaurants
2. Supermarkets.
Every time the weekly shop comes round the panic sets in. My palms get sweaty, my heart beats faster and the overwhelming sense of dread, nausea and fear creeps in.
What will it be this week? The Tesco Tantrum, the Sainsbury’s Screams or the ASDA ASBO?
Whichever one we venture to, the iPad comes out...the sugar aisle is hit and this lucky mummy might just get half an hour to fill the trolley.
And if I’m VERY lucky I will get a chance to check out the clothes section.
Because of all of the above, I don’t get to venture into town too often so I have come to rely on F&F, TU and George to update my wardrobe on the weeks I’m short of cash...and short of time.
So I am so relieved that all three have upped their game and now offer on-trend, top-quality clothes and accessories.
If you have never checked out the clothes in your local supermarket before, er, hitting the checkouts, you really REALLY should next time you’re doing the weekly shop.
It is best explored without a two-year-old, but if that’s not possible just have the Milkybar Buttons and iPad ready to go as if you don’t you might justend up going off your trolley!
