What’s it worth?

QI have a Kodak Brownie 127 camera in a case. Please can you value it?

AMark Owens, Shipley, West Yorkshire The Box Brownie was, for many of a certain generation, their first camera. As a result they are collected today – but most are sadly worth little. Introduced in February 1900 by Frank A. Brownell, the Brownie’s ease of use made it truly revolutionary. More than 70 models were produced. Yours, made of Bakelite between 1953 and 1959, is worth £25 to £40 if in nice shape. If you have the rare white model, that’s a different story – it is very sought-after.

QI have an old tea service of cups, saucers, tea plates, two bread-and-butter plates, a sugar bowl and a milk jug. I believe it was made for the coronation of George V as it is marked with a V and 1911. Does it have any value?

AValerie Holman, via email Sales have slowed for tea services, as most people just don’t eat together so often. Yours was made to commemorate the June 1911 coronation, and lots of the Staffordshire potteries produced sets. This floral service is quite pretty – you might receive £50 to £100 at auction, if complete and in good shape.

QI own a Paddington Bear plush toy I bought in the early Seventies. He is wearing his original boots and has the famous duffle coat. I would be interested to know if it’s worth anything, especially with the recent movies? Alice Wood, Hammersmith, West London

AAs the label famously says, “Please Look After This Bear”. If he still has his tag, hat and Dunlop wellington boots, he will sell for £80 to £100 in good shape. Author Michael Bond created Paddington in the Sixties – it was Jeremy Clarkson’s parents, Shirley and Eddie, who made the early toy under the label Gabrielle Designs. They first appeared in 1972. Very early ones, with straight legs, are worth more. Look out for the rare Aunt Lucy doll.
