A South York­shire Po­lice spokesman said: ‘We are aware some­thing has taken place in the tun­nel af­ter the game and we are in­ves­ti­gat­ing.”

Fleetwood had Harry Sout­tar sent off dur­ing a bruis­ing en­counter and tem­pers flared as play­ers and staff re­turned to the dress­ing rooms.

Bar­ton be­came in­volved in a spat with Sten­del at the fi­nal whis­tle and tem­pers flared again in the tun­nel.

Barns­ley’s Cauley Woodrow took to so­cial me­dia to ac­cuse Bar­ton.

Woodrow, who later deleted this post, tweeted: “Firstly @ftfc to have a man­ager that can phys­i­cally as­sault an­other man­ager in the tun­nel is dis­gust­ing, caus­ing our man­ager to have blood pour­ing from his face!!”
