What’s it worth?
QI was wondering about the value of my collection of pewter Hamilton Alice in Wonderland figurines?
Tracey Ozwell, via email
AI can see why you are curiouser and curiouser about what this little lot is worth. Alice and the various memorable characters from the story have proven to be very popular collectables. Your set of figures are really well made and very imaginative interpretations. There were a dozen pieces in the full Hamilton Collection. If you have all 12, you could expect to shell out £175 to £250 to replace them.
QI have a very tatty UK first issue of The X-Men comic from 1963. The cover is intact but it’s not too tidy! What’s it worth?
Ben Flynn, Kidderminster, Worcs
ATag-lined “the strangest super-heroes of all”, the original Marvel X-Men comic went on to inspire the multi-million-dollar movie franchise and sold for 12 cents in the US. Yours was nine old pence, marked 9d on the cover, but otherwise it was pretty much identical to the US version. It might fetch a fortune if in very good condition. But your tatty copy could still attract early hundreds of pounds.
QI have an autographed programme for Tommy
Steele’s What a Show in
July 1995. He signed it for my wife who met him afterwards and also posed for a photo with her. I even have a letter confirming the meeting at the Bristol Hippodrome from Wyn Howard Thomas, the show organiser. Please can you tell me if it’s worth anything?
Brian Norman, via email
AFlash, bang, wallop, what a picture. Shots like yours with autographs from top entertainers are often very valuable. A clean set of Beatles signatures from the 60s makes many thousands today. And Tommy Steele OBE is hugely popular so I would imagine, with the photograph, it is probably worth £50 to £100. It’s probably more valuable to you than that, so best to stick it in your family album for now.
