It’s Virgil v Raheem
VIRGIL VAN DIJK and Raheem Sterling lead the way in the battle to be crowned the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year.
Liverpool star Van Dijk has been recognised for spearheading his club’s Premier League title pursuit.
The £75million defender is joined on the six-man shortlist by Manchester City ace Sterling.
Sterling’s Etihad teammates Sergio Aguero and Bernardo Silva are among the nominees too, and Liverpool’s Sadio Mane also makes the cut.
Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard is the final selection.
That means there’s no place for last year’s winner Mo Salah, Harry Kane or Arsenal hitman PierreEmerick Aubameyang.
Sterling joins fellow rising England stars Marcus Rashford and Declan Rice on the Young Player of the Year list.
