SHOCK AS MUM AND BOY DEAD IN HOUSE
Detectives probe tragedy of mother, 28, & ‘ever smiling’ son, 4
DETECTIVES were last night investigating the deaths of a mum and her four-year-old son.
The woman, aged 28, and her boy were found at home in Newmarket, Suffolk, by a member of the public at 6pm on Friday.
Shocked neighbours said the lad was “always smiling”.
His mother, thought to be a music teacher, had moved to the town – Britain’s horse racing capital – from India.
Yesterday police said the deaths were unexplained but they believed no one else was involved.
The two-bedroom semi was cordoned off and a black Volkswagen Golf hatchback parked on the pavement in front of the home was also behind police tape.
Officers put up a tent in the garden of the property near the town centre as they searched for clues.
Neighbour Rachel Labuschagne, 24, said: “I saw the little boy. He was so happy and he played cricket in the park and played on his scooter.
“They’ve lived here a couple of years but they never spoke. It’s so, so sad.”
Another neighbour said: “I came home last night about 8pm and there were police everywhere. They were here all night, I think, and forensics were going in and out.”
The neighbour added: “The boy seemed happy enough though. He was always smiling every time I saw him.”
One witness said he had seen a woman come out of a property “in tears”, adding: “I could hear her saying she was ‘so afraid’.” Suffolk Police appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
A spokesman said: “Postmortems are not due to take place until early next week, so until that time the deaths will remain unexplained.
“However, based on the initial findings, detectives do not currently believe that there is any third-party involvement.”
The spokesman added: “A member of the public reported to police he had found a woman and a young male child both deceased inside the premises.
“A police investigation into the circumstances of the deaths is currently under way. Next of kin are aware.
“Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the Park Avenue area during the day and who may have seen or heard anything that could assist the inquiry.”
