Sunday Mirror (Northern Ireland) - - News -

AUSTRALIA’S ruling conservative coalition has won a shock victory in the country’s general election.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison returns to power, defying opinion polls that tipped a Labour win.

Labour leader Bill Shorten conceded defeat as the Liberal-National coalition approached a majority in the House of Representatives.

Mr Morrison, 51, is the conservatives’ third prime minister since they were first elected in 2013.

Mr Shorten, 52, said: “Labour will not be able to form the next government and so… a short while ago I called Scott Morrison to congratulate him.”
