JOSH IN BIG TIME

- BY TOM HOPKINSON

JOSH WARRINGTON wants to clean up the featherweight division with big fight after big fight after dusting off ‘ridiculous’ Kid Galahad in Leeds on Saturday.

The IBF featherweight champion scoffed at Galahad’s claim that he’s nothing new to show after his victories over Lee Selby and Carl Frampton last year.

And once he has proved him wrong, Warrington intends to hammer the point home by unifying the division with huge showdowns against WBA champion Leo Santa Cruz, WBC king Garry Russell Junior and WBO top dog Oscar Valdez.

Warrington said: “If Galahad is approaching the fight thinking I’ve shown my best then it’s music to my ears, because there’s plenty for me to bring.

“I’m far from my actual peak and what I’m capable of doing.

“I had to do what I had to do to win those fights against Selby and Frampton.

“It’s funny when people say, ‘Oh, well, he has shown his best and blah, blah, blah’.

“I’m unbeaten and I won the last two fights against world-level opponents in quite a fashion, I’ve not just pinched them.

“The Selby fight was a split decision but everyone who was there knew I won convincingly. And the same with Carl as well. So for him to say stuff like that, I just find ridiculous, but I’m not surprised because everything he seems to say is ridiculous.”

Warrington is confident Galahad (above) isn’t of the same calibre as his last two opponents.

But, even so, he won’t take him lightly after Andy Ruiz’s victory over Anthony Joshua showed you can never write off an opponent.

Warrington added: “I wouldn’t say that has sharpened my senses, it’s a reminder, but I’m wise enough to know how this sport works.

“I still feel like I’m climbing. I’m not where I want to be and I can’t afford to have that slip-up.

“In order, I’d love to go Santa Cruz, Russell and finish off with Valdez and just have a right old tear-up.
